Language Arts: Students are starting to plan and design their creations for “The Lottery” this week! Thank you to volunteers who are coming in this week and next week!

Social Studies: Students will begin work on their Japan Timebook pages, which are a summative grade for Quarter 2.

Volunteers Still Needed!

Our classes still need volunteers to help us with our Bernstein project for “The Lottery.” You would be helping me manage all of the materials, and assisting small groups of students as they design and paint their creations.

Week of October 21-25

  • ALL LATE WORK and REGRADES DUE THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31 by 4 PM (last day of Quarter 1)

Language Arts: This week students will be examining irony, symbolism, and theme of “The Lottery,” and will write a summative short answer demonstrating their deeper thinking of the story.

Social Studies: Students will understand the influences of other countries on Japan during the middle ages, and the history of samurai in Japan.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Week of October 14-18

Upcoming Due Dates:

  • Monday, October 14: Current Event Due (bright orange sheet, at home, on Google Classroom)

  • Wednesday, October 16: Japan Map (in class)

  • Friday, October 18: Reading Log #2 Due (purple packet, at home, on Google Classroom)

Language Arts: This week, students will examine “The Lottery” more closely for its vocabulary and different themes. Students will also complete their reading logs and responses at home with their choice books.

Social Studies: Students will start the Medieval Japan unit by first looking the Japan’s geography and completing the Japan Map. They will also work in stations to understand different aspects of Japanese culture during the Middle Ages.

Volunteers Needed!

I am in need of a few volunteers per class to help with materials and working with small groups of students.

You will assist students in designing and painting their art project for “The Lottery.”

Week of October 7-10 (no school on Friday, 10/11)

  • Friday, October 18: Reading Log #3 (purple, at home, on Google Classroom)

Language Arts: This week, students will read “The Lottery” in class, as part of our Bernstein unit on Cause and Effect. They will receive the 3rd purple packet to complete their Reading Log and Responses at home.

Social Studies: Students will complete their summative project in class of their knowledge of Imperial China dynasties, inventions, and foreign relations.

Class Anthology Cover Art Contest!

This is a completely OPTIONAL, out-of-class activity, for those students who are interested in creating an artistic cover for our 2019-2020 Class Anthology!

The requirements:

  • Must be submitted by Wednesday, October 14, 4 p.m.

  • Creative, appropriate title (about writing, stories, memories, anthology, etc.)

  • Ms. Parrott’s 7th Grade Classes

  • 2019-2020

  • Colorful, original artwork

  • Fully edited

  • Can be digital or hard copy

  • 8 1/2 X 11″ size (standard size)

  • No memes, or copyrighted images (think original!)

  • MUST be your own work, not someone else’s

  • Please do NOT put your name on the cover (you will be credited inside the book!)

On Tuesday, October 15, both classes will hold a secret ballot vote where artists will not be named until after all voting is complete. The two artists with the most votes will be featured on the front and back covers according to number of votes. These artists will receive $10 Starbucks gift cards, and all participants will receive a small prize!
